If it renders fine on CPU then reduce the resolution of your render to something tiny, e.g. Try the "Conserve memory" option in Mental Ray Translator options panel. What is the reason for the crashing? Have you looked at Windows "Event Viewer" to find what the crash was? It could help explain why.

You can change it in GeForce Experience on the driver page, click the 3 dots icon, top right. If you are somehow using GPU and you have NVidia in your laptop then make sure you are using the Creative driver and not the Game Ready driver. Had to do that a few times back in the day.
